Older Water
Bolsover Area > Bolsover > Water
Ordnance survey maps record the supply of water to Bolsover, in the form of:
P: Pumps.
S: Springs.
W: Wells.
There are many in the area as you can see from the associated 1899 maps.
These Types of water supply were later replaced by ‘town water’ from the local council waterworks at Carr Vale, Hillstown and Whaley. Later still the town was put onto the national grid water supply.
There are on later maps water 'Issues', presumably this is where the water issues itself from the strata as the continuation of a stream which for the first part runs underground and then out into the open and down the hillside and into the river.
