I have stood there a little later than this photograph portrays (1960's) to watch my maternal grandfather Jack Quirk and other friends and relatives either in or out to or from Iceland.
A family friend Harry Mansell who was a mate on the trawlers and later a skipper on the oil rig service boats all over the world was told not to sound the ships hooter on the way out of port. He disregarded this order and gave us all a 'cock a doodle do' on the ships horn as he came past us.
A sculpture now stands here marking the spot where generations waved to the trawlers taking their loved ones to sea, or returning them safely home.
